The Dali & Beyond Film Series features an eclectic selection of films – both familiar and fantastic – with monthly themes ranging from horror, experimental and psychological to kid-friendly and world cinema. April will feature Magic Realism films. Magic Realism is a genre or style associated especially with Latin America that expresses a primarily realistic view of the world while also adding or revealing magical elements. Though Andre Breton considered Frida Kahlo a surrealist, she has also been associated with Magic Realism.
Amelie is a fanciful comedy about a young woman who discretely orchestrates the lives of the people around her, creating a world exclusively of her own making. Shot in over 80 Parisian locations, acclaimed director Jean-Pierre Jeunet invokes his incomparable visionary style to capture the exquisite charm and mystery of modern-day Paris through the eyes of a beautiful ingenue.
